Krone is Vintage-only Méthode Cap Classique, produced on Twee Jonge Gezellen wine estate in Tulbagh, South Africa.
We believe that each vintage tells a story. Krone Méthode Cap Classique celebrates a unique moment in time and place; expressing our commitment to the vintage and the character of each harvest, selecting only the finest, most distinctive fruit. It’s a journey of discovery that sees each and every vintage borne from the crucible of nature to maturation in the cool of our underground cellar.
Our 300-year-old farm has been restored to reflect its heritage and contemporary renaissance and is open to the public for tastings as well as cellar and gallery tours.
Twee Jonge Gezellen is tucked into the northwest corner of the Tulbagh wine region, which is home to the fourth oldest town in South Africa, dating back to the early 1700s.
Tulbagh’s Church Street has the largest number of Cape Dutch, Edwardian and Victorian heritage sites in any one street in South Africa. The town was named after Governor Ryk Tulbagh, and is located in a rocky basin, fringed on three sides by mountains: the Obiqua, Winterhoek and Witzenberg Mountains.
These mountains offer protection to the town and its surrounds from the summer southeaster; and the area is cooled by the breeze that flows in where the mountains give way to a natural gateway. In winter, the mountain range is often dusted with snow, a magical sight.
From the tasting room, with its design aesthetic being a play of dark and light, to the wide open terrace: a portal for views of vineyards and the Saronsberg Mountains.
Says Tracy Lee Lynch of Studio Leelynch, who was tasked with the interior design: “The story of the farm holds deep magic within itself: the centuries of visionary experimentation that led to the discovery of cold fermentation, for example, and the night harvest, where the grapes are brought in by moonlight when their sugars are at their peak. These mysterious processes, known so intimately and intuitively by the winemaker, seemed to mirror my creative process.”
The interior design for the estate was inspired by its rich heritage and original architecture, as well as circular forms and natural, earth-friendly materials. Arresting, custom-made pieces by local designers, including Gregor Jenkin, Laurie Wiid and Meyer von Wielligh, add energy to the space.
“In 2017, our historic farm was restored to reflect its history as well as its contemporary reimagining,”
Now you can reserve a tasting of Krone MCC at Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate.
In an effort to offer our visitors the complete Krone tasting room and terrace experience we have implemented a booking system.
Our guests now have the opportunity to book a table to taste our Vintage-only MCCs with Dine Plan: with which you can instantly book and secure your time and date.
There’s no need to pick up the phone with this easy-to-use online and mobile system. Just want to drop in? You are more than welcome to purchase a glass or bottle of Krone to simply enjoy under the trees on the estate; or while you wait for a table to open up in the tasting room.
Playing host to the interplay of nature and time: Krone MCC matures on the lees for the minimum of a year; and up to 16 years and beyond. Time, patience and dedication to handcrafted MCC creates the perfect platform for each vintage to shine.
With over 300 years of history, Twee Jonge Gezellen has the honour of being home to the first underground cellar in Africa. Here, vintage after vintage of Krone MCC is stacked in its coves as well as being hand-turned in traditional pupitres, while the Méthode Cap Classique matures on the lees.

Founded in 2008 by Justin Rhodes and Cameron Munro WHATIFTHEWORLD Gallery started out as a group of young contemporary South African artists who have gone on to transform the South African artistic landscape.
Twee Jonge Gezellen has been painted with this brush of transformation now too: with the gallery’s contemporary art housed in its historic bones.
